Tarps, straps, permits. The rate should pay for all of it.

Open-deck freight pays for skill and equipment: chains, straps, tarps, and knowing how to secure a load properly. We make sure the rate pays for all of it.

The details
Tarp pay on the rate con
If a load needs tarping, the tarp pay is agreed before you book, not argued at the dock.
Dimensions and weight first
Length, width, height and weight checked against your deck before we talk rate. Step deck for taller freight, flatbed where it fits, and a load that needs a permit is never booked as if it doesn't.
Your securement gear
We know what's on your truck (chains, straps, tarps, edge protection), so we don't book a load you're not equipped to secure.
Where deck freight comes from
BC lumber and building products, Alberta energy and construction, steel and machinery. It swings with construction season, and we plan for the swing.
What we watch on open deck

Permits and seasonal road limits.

Oversize needs permits, and spring brings road limits. We raise both early.

Why it matters

Oversize loads need permits in every province and state they cross, and some regions restrict heavy loads on certain roads while the ground thaws in spring. We raise the permit and restriction questions while we plan. The permits themselves, and the rules behind them, sit with you and the agency that issues them.

General information, not advice. Check the rules with the agency before you run.

Why we say this

Requirements change and this page may not be current: confirm anything regulatory with the relevant agency or your own advisor before you run. We'll flag what we see during setup, but the obligation sits with the carrier and its authority.

Questions carriers ask

Answered straight.

Do you dispatch oversize loads?

Yes. If you already hold the permits, we book around them. If you don't, we can order them for you through a permit service; the permit fees are yours. Either way, we don't book an oversize load until the permits are sorted.

Step deck or flatbed: does it matter?

It does. A step deck carries taller freight than a flatbed can without going over height, and brokers post the two separately. Tell us what you run and we search for that.

Do you take a cut of tarp pay?

No. Our percentage is on the linehaul. Tarp pay, like a fuel surcharge line or detention, stays yours.
