Our desk is in the Lower Mainland, minutes from the Pacific Highway crossing. Canada–US freight is where a lot of carriers do their best work, and where one missing document can cost you a whole day at the booth.

The details
Loads in both directions
Southbound and northbound planned together, so you're not crossing back empty after a good run south.
PARS and PAPS
The pre-arrival numbers each side's customs needs before you reach the booth, coordinated with the shipper's customs broker so the entry is filed before you roll.
ACE and ACI eManifests
The electronic manifests US and Canadian customs require ahead of your arrival, filed on time and matching what's on the truck.
Cabotage kept straight
A Canadian truck can bring a load into the US and take one out, but can't haul between two US points, and a US truck can't do the reverse in Canada. We plan around it and check the narrow exceptions rather than assume them.
The right crossing
Pacific Highway, Lynden, Sumas, Coutts, North Portal. We pick the crossing that fits your load, your appointment and the wait times, not just the shortest line on the map.
Currency kept separate
Loads paid in USD and CAD are tracked separately on your weekly report, so you always know what you actually earned.
What you need to cross

Set up once, then it's routine.

Authority for the country you enter

Insurance on both sides of the border

Drivers with the right ID (FAST helps)

A customs broker on the freight

The details
  • Operating authority for the country you're entering. A Canadian carrier hauling into the US needs US authority as well as its safety certificate at home.
  • Insurance that covers you on both sides of the border.
  • Drivers with the identity documents to enter the other country. A trusted-traveler card like FAST speeds things up where it's accepted.
  • Shippers and receivers who use a customs broker. They clear the goods; we make sure your side is done.

General information, not advice. Check the rules with the agency before you run.

Why we say this

Requirements change and this page may not be current: confirm anything regulatory with the relevant agency or your own advisor before you run. We'll flag what we see during setup, but the obligation sits with the carrier and its authority.

Know your cost per mile.

It's the floor under every load.

Questions carriers ask

Answered straight.

Do you dispatch US carriers into Canada?

Yes, for US carriers with the right documents. The same cabotage rule works in reverse: a US truck can bring a load into Canada and take one out, but not haul between two Canadian points.

Who clears customs?

The shipper's or receiver's customs broker clears the goods. We make sure the carrier's side is ready before you reach the booth: the manifest, the pre-arrival numbers and the paperwork on the truck.

Are cross-border loads worth it?

They often pay better than domestic freight because fewer carriers are set up to run them. Whether they're worth it for you depends on your costs and how often you'd come back empty, and that is exactly what we plan.
